Dog or Alarm System?

It’s an age old debate. Are dogs or alarm systems better for the protection of your family and home? Which one is more beneficial?

Dogs can be a wonderful asset to a family. Dogs have been protecting families for a long time. As far as safety goes, they are very aware of their environment and can instantly alert owners of trouble with some quick barks.

Even with all of these benefits, however, it is usually agreed that even a simple security alarm is far safer than using a dog for security. Dogs come with a lot of risks, and may not be able to provide the protection you are hoping for with your home. Alarm systems in the long run are less expensive and continue to provide better protection.

People who like guard dogs argue that dogs instantly alert owners of any break ins. Yet alarm systems alert police or monitoring security as soon as there is a break in. There is also a risk to your dog when you are gone, since burglars often steal or even kill watch dogs.

Alarm systems have provided other benefits than just protecting against burglary and theft. Most alarm systems can provide your home protection against fire. They can also measure levels of dangerous gases, such as Carbon Monoxide.

Alarm systems are much safer for family, especially children. Security dogs can be very well trained, but even the best trained dogs can be unpredictable. Statistics show that those that have been attacked by dogs used for security are predominantly children. No one wants that on their conscience, even those that don’t have children.

There is also the issue of your dog actually attacking a burglar. If a thief is bit and brought to the hospital, they can sue. This can cause a lot of headaches, heartache, and even financial ruin.

It’s agreed that dogs can be a great asset to a family. However, keeping a guard dog is not worth the risk. For home security, an alarm system will do a much better job with protecting your home and your family.
