Window Safety and Security Tips

Burglars don’t like unwanted attention. That is why it is so important to keep your home both being and appearing safe to deter burglars. Having secure windows make it much harder for burglars to have access to your home.

This article focuses on window safety. To begin, search all the windows of your home and check how easy they are to lock or open. This helps you understand how easily a potential burglar will be able to gain entry in to your home.

Once you have searched your home, write down any improvements you should make in regards to your window. If you have older locks it is a good idea to replace the original locks. Newer locks are more reliable and will be able to secure your window better.

Windows should have locks on them to keep burglars out. Windows are made out of glass that can break, however, regardless of a lock. While most burglars would rather avoid breaking a window, there is no guarantee breaking a window won’t happen during a burglary.

As mentioned before, burglars don’t like attention. The sound of breaking glass tends to travel, so neighbors and people passing by are more likely to notice a break in. For this reason most burglars try to avoid breaking windows during a robbery.

If you are worried about someone breaking your window you can install high security glass or polycarbonate. That way burglars would be unable to break through the window. Regardless of the type of glass you have with your window, be sure that your window is properly locked for the security of your home.

You could also choose to install bars outside your home’s windows. Bars are good for warding off potential thieves, and keep burglars from easily gaining entry to your home. However, bars aren’t the safest form of security since they prove to be unsafe during fires and other emergencies.

Every home shouldn’t rely on a sole security measure. While having locks on windows, or doors for that matter, are great investments for security they will be that much more effective with another security measure, such as a home security alarm system. One can never be too safe when it comes to the protection of one’s home and family.
