When you leave your home on vacation there are many worries that crop up about the safety of your home while you are away. Uninhabited homes are higher targets for burglaries and vandalism. Vacationing can be a little intimidating in regards to your home’s protection, but leaving a vacation home you don’t stay in often can be even more nerve-wracking.
One option to keep track of the security and home protection of your vacation home is to install video surveillance cameras. Surveillance cameras can be installed inside and outside your home. There are three main surveillance cameras: hardwired system, stand alone, and Wireless IP cameras.
Hardwired systems use wires to communicate with different devices to record the coming and goings of your vacation home. These recordings can be saved on a DVR for you to view the next time you visit your vacation home. They can also use the Internet to transmit videos for you to monitor through the convenience of your home computer or laptop.
Hardwired systems can be programmed to record 100% of the time you are away. If recording the videos on a DVR, however, it is important to replace the videos often so that the recordings on the DVR don’t record over a previously used video. Sending the videos through the Internet can be a nice, convenient option, but some people choose to use a DVR to cut on Internet cost.
Stand alone cameras are usually stuck in a specific area of your home. They are usually set with motion activated cameras so they only record when their motion sensor goes off. Recordings are usually placed on the camera’s SD card, though they can also be programmed to record on a DVR.
Wireless IP cameras use IP Internet networks for monitoring. They rely on a high speed Internet. The Internet connection provides a live feed option. Many people enjoy the option of knowing that their home was still safe as they were watching the video.
The IP network relies on both indoor and outdoor windows for surveillance. Videos aren’t specifically limited, but can be placed anywhere around theproperty. Wireless IP cameras can be set to go off on a timer, or through motion sensors.
