Gun Safety Tips

Safety precautions need to be taken when a gun is stored in your home. Guns can be very dangerous, especially for younger children who don’t know what they can do. Take extra precautions to reduce the risk of injury or death by your firearm being shot.

It is important to keep your firearms stored and locked away. There are plenty of options to store your guns. Find one that meets the approved guidelines and that is in the price range you are hoping for.

Never assume a firearm is unloaded. It is best to treat a gun like it does have ammunition in it. Accidents happen routinely because someone believes a gun is unloaded and they test it out.

Don’t pull the trigger on firearms. Again, always assume the firearm is loaded. Never point the muzzle toward anyone and always place the safety on.

Disassemble your gun if you can before you store it. That way you can keep the parts separated and there is even less chance of a gun being loaded and shot. Ammunition can also be stored in a separate location than your firearm for the same reason.

There are locks you can actually place on your gun for protection.
Locks usually need to be secured around the trigger guard. If locks are removed by force they usually ruin the gun, making it unusable.

Locks do not always work, however. Locks are meant to add to safety precautions. Locks make it hard to fire a gun, but sometimes they can malfunction and a gun can still be loaded and shot with the locked trigger.

Educate your children on gun safety. Explain to them why they shouldn’t ever handle a gun, especially without being properly trained first. Children need to be supervised very closely whenever the gun is not stored and locked away.
